Álex Márquez afronta el Gran Premio de Italia en Mugello este fin de semana con el objetivo de luchar por el podio y acercarse al liderato del Campeonato del Mundo de Moto2.

El único piloto, aparte de Franco Morbidelli, que sabe lo que es ganar esta temporada es su compañero en el Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS, Álex Márquez, que en el Gran Premio de España disputado en Jerez, logró la victoria delante de su público.

A pesar de fracturarse el quinto metatarso de su pie izquierdo al caer en los entrenamientos libres, Márquez logró un disputado cuarto puesto en Le Mans, lo que le sirvió para escalar hasta la tercera posición en la clasificación del campeonato, a solo 18 puntos de Lüthi y a 38 de Morbidelli.

El poco tiempo que ha habido entre carreras no ha permitido a su hueso soldar completamente, pero Álex confía en que eso no sea un problema cuando se suba a la moto este fin de semana en Mugello, donde espera poder arrebatar a su compañero de equipo, que además corre en casa, la que sería su quinta victoria de la temporada.

Álex Márquez: «Le Mans no es un circuito que realmente se adapte a mi estilo de pilotaje, así que terminé contento con el cuarto puesto y con los puntos, porque me permitieron subir al tercer puesto en el campeonato.

Mugello es un circuito con curvas rápidas y fluido, un circuito donde disfruto muchísimo pilotando y por eso estoy deseando empezar el fin de semana.

La lesión en mi pie está mucho mejor. Todavía no ha soldado el hueso del todo, pero confío en que no me moleste demasiado encima de la moto y me permita apretar para luchar por un buen resultado. Espero que sea en el podio”.

Álex Márquez heads into this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix at Mugello looking to fight for the podium places and get closer to the lead in the Moto2 World Championship.

The only rider other than Franco Morbidelli to secure a race win this season is his Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS teammate, Álex Márquez, who took victory in front of his home fans at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez.

Despite fracturing the fifth metatarsal in his left foot in a free practice crash Márquez secured a hard fought fourth place finish last time out in Le Mans, which saw him move up to third in the championship standings, just 18 points behind Lüthi and 38 points adrift of series leader Morbidelli.

The short time between races means that the foot injury hasn’t yet healed fully, but Márquez is confident that it won’t be an issue on the bike this weekend in Mugello, where he’s aiming to deny his teammate a fifth win in front of his home crowd.

Álex Márquez: «Le Mans isn’t a track that really suits my riding style, so I was happy to come away from there with a fourth place finish and enough points to move me up to third in the championship.

Mugello though, with its fast corners and flowing nature, is a track I enjoy racing at a lot and I’m really looking forward to the weekend ahead.

The injury to my foot is much improved. It’s still not fully healed but I’m confident that it won’t cause me any problems on the bike and that I will be able to push for a good result and, hopefully, the podium».
