El Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS se despide de Barcelona con el liderato de la categoría intermedia bajo el brazo. Alex Márquez se impone magistralmente en casa.

La carrera de Alex Márquez ha sido inteligente, madura y consistente. Igual que su victoria. Tercera consecutiva que suma el español, algo que ningún piloto de la categoría conseguía desde finales de 2017.
Tras una convulsa salida con toque incluido en la primera curva, Márquez se ha rehecho rápidamente para adelantar a tres pilotos y cerrar el top 3 en la tercera vuelta.
Con gas a fondo y el modo ‘recortar distancia’ activado, Márquez ha firmado la vuelta rápida de carrera (1:43.871) en su tercer giro. Así, pronto ha alcanzaría a los pilotos Tom Luthi y Augusto Fernández que le precedían con una ventaja de 1.4 s.
Adelantar a Fernández ha sido un escollo que Alex ha superado con bastante rápidez. Luthi era el último obstáculo y en la vuelta 14 ha llegado el adelantamiento definitivo. Cómodo en la cabeza, el 73 ha ampliado progresivamente su ventaja para acabar alcanzando una cómoda victoria (1.989 s. por delante del suizo).
Este triunfo, tercero consecutivo esta temporada, convierte a Alex en el nuevo líder de la categoría intermedia. En este momento tiene 111 puntos, 7 más que Luthi y 22 por delante del tercer clasificado, Jorge Navarro.
Álex Márquez, 1º: «Me siento muy bien, tanto por las tres victorias como por pasar a liderar el campeonato. Ha sido una carrera difícil de contralar y empezar desde segunda posición de parrilla no era fácil. En la primera curva me he tocado con otro piloto y he perdido algo de tiempo, pero tenía claro que la clave de la carrera era ser constante y no cometer errores, sobretodo en la curva 10. Cuando estaba detrás de Luthi sentía que tenía algo más que él y que tenía que ir a por la victoria. He atacado y lo conseguido. Ganar aquí es muy especial. Y hacerlo, además, sumando la tercera victoria consecutiva y cogiendo el liderato es increíble. Estoy muy contento por mí y por todo el equipo.»

Alex Márquez storms to a third consecutive victory at his home race and takes the lead of the Moto2 World Championship.
Setting off in blistering temperatures of 27 degrees, Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS team-mates Alex Márquez and Xavi Vierge got their home races underway from 6th and 20th respectively.
After an intriguing race-long duel with championship challenger Thomas Luthi, Márquez extended his advantage in the final laps to win his third race in a row by 1.989 seconds. It’s the first time a rider has managed this in the Moto2 class since the end of 2017
Having narrowly avoided a collision at Turn 1 on the first lap, Marquez quickly passed three riders to sit third on lap 3.
After posting the fastest lap of the race – a 1m 43.871s – on lap 3, the 2014 Moto3 world champion quickly caught early leaders Luthi and Augusto Fernandez, who were 1.4 seconds ahead.
Márquez soon overtook Fernandez and then passed Luthi for the lead at turn 1 on lap 14. Three laps later, he extended his advantage by 0.6 seconds to ensure a comfortable victory.
Márquez’s victory lifts him to first in the world championship, 7 points ahead of Luthi, and 22 clear of Jorge Navarro.
Álex Márquez 1st: “It feels so good to take the third win and also to be the leader in the championship. It was difficult to control and starting from the second row wasn’t easy. In the first corner I had some contact with another rider, lost a bit of time but I knew this was a race to be constant and not to make any mistakes, especially at turn ten. When I was behind Luthi I felt as though I had a little bit more. I tried it and I did it! To take the lead in the championship I’m really happy for the team.”
