El piloto del Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS pone rumbo a Phillip Island para disputar el próximo fin de semana la segunda de las tres carreras de la gira transoceánica.

El ultra rápido y técnico trazado de Phillip Island será escenario este fin de semana del Gran Premio de Australia, décimo sexta cita del Campeonato del Mundo de Moto2 al que Álex Márquez llega decidido a ser protagonista en la batalla por el podio.

El piloto de Cervera demostró una gran forma en Japón la semana pasada, cuando luchó por terminar entre los cinco primeros sólo 48 horas después de sufrir una fortísima caída en la FP1 de la jornada del viernes.

Márquez nunca ha ganado en Phillip Island, pero en el pasado ha rondado en varias ocasiones el peldaño más alto del podio. El catalán terminó cuarto, a sólo medio segundo del vencedor, en su segunda visita a Phillip Island en 2013. Acabó todavía más cerca del triunfo en 2014, el año en que se proclamó campeón del mundo de Moto3. Márquez fue segundo en una carrera espectacular en la que los tres primeros clasificados terminaron separados por sólo 32 milésimas de segundo. Aquel figura aún como el segundo podio más apretado de la historia de las categorías de 125cc y Moto3.

Márquez nunca ha terminado más allá de los diez primeros en sus últimas cinco salidas en Australia. Sin embargo, este fin de semana espera protagonizar otra gran actuación que le daría un empujón en su lucha por el tercer puesto final en el Campeonato del Mundo de Moto2.

El piloto del Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS comenzará a preparar el fin de semana en la FP1 del viernes a las 1:55am –hora peninsular española–. La carrera, programada a 25 vueltas, se iniciará el domingo a las 4:20am.

Álex Márquez: «Phillip Island es un circuito increíble y muy bonito, donde siempre disfruto pilotando. Las condiciones pueden ser muy complicadas y es importante mantener la concentración al máximo para lidiar con los cambios de tiempo. Quiero seguir en la misma línea de Japón, donde pudimos recuperarnos de una situación difícil tras una fuerte caída en la FP1 para terminar luchando por el cuarto puesto».

Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 Marc VDS rider Alex Marquez travels south this weekend to Australia to contest the middle of three back-to-back flyaway races at the awe-inspiring Phillip Island track.

The super-fast and technically demanding 4.4km Phillip Island track hosts the Australian Grand Prix this weekend, with Alex Marquez determined to play a prominent role in the podium battle in the 16th round of the Moto2 World Championship.

Alex Marquez continued his impressive run of form at Japan’s Twin Ring Motegi last weekend when he fought hard inside the top five just over 48 hours after a heavy crash in FP1. Marquez has never won at Phillip Island but he has come incredibly close to conquering the top step of the podium in the past. The Spaniard was only 0.5s off the win in fourth place on his second visit to Phillip Island in 2013 and he went even closer to glory in his World Championship-winning campaign in 2014. Marquez finished second in a thrilling encounter that saw the top three split by the narrow margin of just 0.032s, which made it the second closest podium in the history of the lightweight World Championship.

Marquez has never finished outside of the top 10 in his five previous races in Australia and he is hoping another strong ride this weekend boosts his bid to take third position in the overall World Championship standings.

Regardless of climatic conditions, the Phillip Island track is undoubtedly one of the most popular of the season and is world famous for its fast and flowing layout and jaw-dropping location adjacent to the Bass Strait.

Marquez gets down to business in FP1 at 1055am local time on Friday, and the 25-lap Moto2 race is scheduled to start at 1420pm on Sunday afternoon.

The conditions can be very complicated and it is important to keep maximum concentration to deal with the changing weather. I want to continue performing well like in Japan where we managed to recover from a difficult situation with the big crash in FP1 to fight for the top four.”
