Álex Márquez volvió a subir el podio en el Gran Premio de Austria logrando una fantástica segunda posición que lo consolida en el tercer puesto del campeonato. El de Cervera pudo luchar por la victoria pero acabó defendiendo bien su posición por delante de Lüthi, quien finalmente fue tercero.

Desde la tercera vuelta Márquez se enfrascó en un duelo tenso con el suizo y las marcas de goma en sus hombros fueron una buena prueba de ello. Pero finalmente el español fue ganando metros en las últimas dos vueltas para asegurarse el segundo escalón del podio.

A mitad de carrera, se aclaró la situación y el líder del Mundial se puso a tirar. Morbidelli lanzó un cambio de ritmo, que no fue contestado por sus perseguidores: tanto Álex Márquez como Tom Luthi frenaron demasiado tarde en la Curva 3, y cometieron un error clave para sus aspiraciones de victoria.

Márquez, con su segundo puesto, se coloca a 28 puntos de la segunda posición de la general. A falta de siete carreras Morbidelli suma 207 puntos, Lüthi 181 y Márquez 153.

Álex Márquez: “Me lo he pasado en grande en esta carrera, en particular con la batalla que he librado con Tom Lüthi que ha sido muy apretada. Al final de la carrera pensaba que tendría una opción de disputarle a Franco la victoria, pero he cometido un pequeño error en la curva tres y se me ha ido. Pero estoy muy contento por haber subido al podio, porque no ha sido un fin de semana sencillo en este circuito y, por eso, este podio es muy importante para mí.”

Álex repeats podium in Austria, the fifth of the season

Álex Márquez got the podium again at the Red Bull Ring with a fantastic second position with which Márquez consolidates third place in the standings. Álex was able to fight for the victory but ended up defending his position well ahead of Lüthi, who was finally third.

From lap three Márquez was engaged in a tense and at times shoulder-rubbing duel with Lüthi with the Spanish star gaining the advantage to secure second on the podium with two laps remaining.

At mid-race, the situation was clarified and the World Cup leader started pulling harder. Morbidelli changed the pace, which was not answered by his pursuers: both Alex Márquez and Tom Luthi slowed down too late at turn 3 and made a crucial mistake for their victory aspirations.

With his second position, Álex Márquez is in third in the overall standings, 28 points behind Lüthi. With seven races remaining Morbidelli has 207 points with Lüthi on 181 and Márquez on 153.

Álex Márquez: “I had a lot of fun in this race especially the fight with Tom, which was very close. Late in the race I thought I had a chance to challenge Franco for the win but I made a small mistake at turn three and lost the gap to him. But I am very happy to be on the podium, it has not been an easy weekend at this track so this is an important result for me.”
