Alex Márquez was unable to finish his LCR Honda career on a high as an early crash ended his hopes at the season-ending Valencia Grand Prix. Competing in the colours of Lucio Cecchinello’s team for the final time, the LCR Honda CASTROL rider slid out on lap eight of Sunday’s race, but rejoined and eventually finished in 17th position.
Having qualified on the fifth row, the Spaniard made a solid start and moved up into 13th on the opening lap. But after a coming together with the Yamaha bike of Cal Crutchlow, the Spaniard went into the gravel, although he showed real determination to restart his machine and see the chequered flag in his last-ever race for the LCR team.

“So we didn’t finish as we planned or wanted to, but life many times isn’t as you want it. Apart from that, I had a problem with the engine in the first part of the race, it was overheating, and then I had the crash. I can’t say much more, that’s how it was, but I’m happy to finish the race for the team. I’m really proud and happy with what this team is doing and how they understand races. I just want to say thank you to all the team and I’m grateful to have lived these two years with the team.”
