Alex Márquez produced a stunning fightback in Sunday’s race to claim a superb top-10 finish at the Catalan Grand Prix. Having missed qualifying after a serious fall yesterday, the LCR Honda CASTROL rider battled through from the back of the grid to take 10th position in front of 60,000 of his home fans at Montmeló.
After being passed fit to compete following medical checks, Alex impressed in the warm-up as he went 11th fastest. He carried that momentum into the race, making up a number of places in the early exchanges, before passing both Pol Espargaro and Darryn Binder on the tenth lap to move into the top 10. He maintained his form until the chequered flag and finished as the top Honda bike in his own backyard.
Álex Márquez – 10th
“Well, after starting from the back of the grid, we made a really good start. I was trying to give my best, but the accident at the first corner of (Taka) Nakagami and (Alex) Rins put me out and I lost the positions I had gained from the start. But I never gave up, I just tried to keep pushing and keep believing that it was possible to be there. We chose the soft tyre which was difficult to manage, but I tried to be smooth and not make mistakes. It was a nice Sunday, we saved Sunday and that is the most important thing, but we still have problems, but we will keep going and we will try to fix them. Tomorrow, we have a really important test and physically I’m ok, I have some pain, but I’ll try to do as many laps as possible.”
